Biogas Works For
America -
Using Waste to
Generate Revenues and Transportation Fuels
Waste Has Value. Let's Use It.
Methane-laden biogas is produced by decomposing animal, human and plant waste at thousands of farms, waste-water treatment plants, and landfills across the USA. Biogas can be beneficially used to produce biogas-derived electricity ("BDE") and renewable natural gas ("RNG"), but most is not.
We work to ensure that all facilities with biogas can use it to supply either BDE or RNG as renewable transportation fuels under the Renewable Fuel Stan-dard (RFS) program. Currently, both are RFS-qualified fuels, but USEPA is now proposing to completely and perma-nently remove BDE from the RFS program.
As described in a recent letter to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, we are actively working with other organizations to convince EPA to retain BDE in the RFS program.
